Friendship Center of Harbor Springs
August, 1975: Harbor Springs Kiwanis Club and the Petoskey Friendship Center start the organization Harbor Springs Friendship Center. It operated two days a week in the basement of the old Presbyterian Church on Third Street.
December 6, 1977: Board Members: Edward Schnell, Bruce Gathman, and Forbes Henderson filed letters of incorporation.
May, 1978: School Board approved Friendship Center becoming part of the Community School Program
June, 1980: FCHS opened in the Harbor Springs High School.
1981: The school and center received national attention for their “gray integration.”
2004: The center moved out of the high school for renovations in the spring or summer of 2004. During 2004 the center met in the Presbyterian Church, the Methodist Church, and finally in the community room of building C at Hillside Apartments.
August 9, 2005: FCHS Board voted to stay at Hillside where it remained until September of 2015 when the original 1978 Hillside buildings were torn down.
September 2015 - October 2016: The FCHS operated in the fireplace room of the Birchwood Inn.
March 2017: The Friendship Center moves into new center and starts a new journey!
